How To Profit From Really Inexpensive Website Traffic
Copyright 2010 by Willie Crawford

All online marketers eventually realize that a steady
flow of targeted traffic is the very life’s blood of their
online business.

At that point some decide to focus on generating free
traffic via methods such as article marketing and search
engine optimization. That’s how I generated most of my
website traffic for many years.

Other marketers look at the time and effort involved, and
decide that using traffic from paid sources is more
cost-effective. Given that I now manage dozens of my own,
and clients projects, and a dozen virtual employees, I’ve
evolved to where buying traffic often makes more sense.

While most people think of pay-per-click traffic such as
Google AdWords, I actually focus on MUCH cheaper paid
traffic which offers a much higher return-on-investment.
That’s what I’d like to teach you to do today.

Before we get into a few simple and easy methods, let’s
establish a few rules that you should always follow. They
are:

1) Make sure that the traffic you buy is targeted. These
should be individuals actively looking for what you have
to sell. They should be in a buying mode.

2) You should know your source. Do your due diligence and
actually check them out. Google their name or their company
name and see what is being said about them. Contact people
who gave them testimonials and see how satisfied they are
with that buying decision today. Look their site up on
“The Way Back Machine” at http://Archive.org and see
how their business has evolved over the years and get a
feel for how long they have actually been in business.

3) Know specifically how this traffic is generated. You
want to know both the methodology and the general
demographics of the traffic.

Several years ago, one of my subscribers who violated all
three of the above rules, lost $4000 in about a month. He
was promoting a network marketing “opportunity,” and was
advised to buy leads. So he went to an online company
and plopped down $4000 of his retirement fund for some
guaranteed traffic.

He did indeed get the guaranteed visitors (several thousand)
of them but not a single one of them converted (joined his
team). Some did fill in his opt-in form for more information
but they were just curious.

It turns out that the way the company he purchased the leads
from, delivered that was traffic via pop-unders. A person
would visit a site pertaining to something they were marginally
interested in, and while they were reading a page, another
pay would load underneath. When the surfer closed the top
page, he saw my subscriber’s page.

The problem was that most of these surfers had absolutely
no interest in what my subscriber was offering. The
curiosity seekers who filled out the form basically sent my
subscriber on a wild goose chase as he followed up with all
of those who left a phone number. NONE of them proved to be
really interested.

Now that you know not to fall for that or similar scams,
let me tell you FIVE ways that I generate a flood of
highly-target website traffic, often for less than a
penny per click.

1) I buy keyword-rich domain names to capture type-in
traffic. These can be brand new domains or they can be
aged domains that may even be still indexed in the major
search engines. Even if they are not still indexed, some
search engines seem to favor aged domains which are
readily available.

Many surfer, looking to buy a product, mistakenly type their
search term into the browser bar rather than the search box.
If you happen to own that term (as a domain name) the traffic
will often be redirected to your site. Even if the surfer
enters the search term in the search box, your site will
often be shown in the results provided your site is properly
optimized and indexed.

If you use this method and average a mere 10 visitors per day,
that’s 3650 targeted visitors per year. Assuming these visitors
are searching on a term that you’d have to pay $1 for at the
pay-per-click search engines, and that the domain name and a
full year of hosting cost you $25, you’ve just saved
($3650 – $25 = $3625). I do get my domain names and hosting
that cheaply :-)

Imagine having a dozen domains each targeting a different
keywords, and I’m sure you’ll understand why I personally
love this traffic generation method so much.

2) Offering a free gift to get the visitor to your site and
then requiring them to join your mailing list before they
can access the gift. After they opt-in, you give them
the gift but also tell them about some other product that you
want to call their attention to.

I find this method very effective when posted on social
networking sites, or even run as ezine solo ads.

Done properly you not only generate traffic, but by
building a list, you also build-in a way to call them back
to your site periodically.

3. Buying links from other sites. In many niches, there are
webmasters who haven’t figured out how to monetize their sites
yet. You can approach them offering to pay for a prominently
displayed link pointing back to your site, and many will sell
you these links very inexpensively.

You do need to shop around, and since there is a rumor that
the major search engines MAY frown upon this practice, I do
it in a way that it’s not so obvious.

4) Funnel traffic via “mini-nets.” In a mini-net, you have
one main site that you really want to funnel traffic to. That’s
often referred to as your “money site.” You build other sites
on domains that you purchase, web 2.0 sites, and what are
often referred to as “parasite sites.” These are sites offered
by companies that will give you free hosting on their network.

You have links from most of the domains that you purchased,
the web 2.0 sites, and the parasite sites, all pointing to
your money site. Some people build a network of sites
pointing to their peripheral sites. The idea there is that
if you can get the peripheral sites to rank higher in the
search engines they will command more respect and boost the
ranking of your money site too.

There are many complex linking patterns that you can use –
as many as there are people who consider themselves experts
on the topic. I personally keep things as simple as possible,
and often rely upon the experience and expertise of webmasters
that I often outsource the mind-numbing, tedious tasks to.

6) Build backlinks and RSS feeds by bookmarking. Many of my
WordPress blogs are configured so that every post is
bookmarked. I also use software to bookmark every page on
some of my content sites and mini-sites. This both pushes
them up in the search engines, and places links that
highly-qualified visitors can follow back to my sites from all
over cyber-space.

There are many other techniques that I use to generate an
absolute flood of traffic to my websites and those of my
clients. I’ll share more in future articles.

DON’T Subscribe To An Ezine Using An Autoresponder

Posted By: Admin on August 6, 2010 at 9:48 am

When I first came online over a dozen years ago,
one of the “tricks” taught was to subscribe to an
ezine using an autoresponder email address.

I didn’t think that was a good idea back then, and
I think that it’s an even worse idea today.

People who do that to me are not only unsubscribred,
but since I know the owners of practically ALL the
major autoresponder companies, they often lose their
accounts!

If you want a newsletter… subscribe. If not, don’t
bother subscribing!

Just food for thought.

Twitter Time Bandits

Posted By: Admin on August 5, 2010 at 6:00 pm

I read an article by Dan Kennedy long ago
where he talks about “time bandits.” These
are people who will steal your time if you
let them.

Lately, I’ve notice time bandits on Twitter.

I recently tweeted about my time management
techniques on Twitter. Although I tweet a lot,
I’m not on Twitter a lot… maybe 20 minutes a
day!

When I first log into Twitter, I look at my
timeline, and the first thing I look at are
direct messages. The second thing that I look
at are @ messages.

The @ messages are where the time bandits step
in. People who I am not even following, or have
no ongoing conversation with post message to
@williecrawford causing them to show up in front
of all of my followers, but also putting them in
my “twit-stream” when I first log in. I consider
this the equivalent of TAKING my time and resources.

I unfollow people who do that and my staff often
gets people who do that shut down. DON’T do that.

Take time and build real relationships, and real
conversations on Twitter.

Time Management For Twitterholics

Posted By: Admin on July 22, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Many of my seasoned marketing buddies look at Twitter,
and tell me that it looks like a lot of fun, but that
they don’t have time for chit chat. They have businesses
to run.

I point out to them that while I have tens of thousands
of followers, and an incredible number of tweets, I don’t
really spend that much time on Twitter. I run numerous
businesses too!

Here are some of my time management secrets:

First of all, I use a tool call Market Me Tweet. This
piece of desktop software allows you to schedule an
unlimited number of tweets, to an unlimited number of
accounts, for up to a year in advance. So many of my
tweets are pre-scheduled.

With the latest version of Market Me Tweet, I can even
schedule the same tweet to be posted to multiple accounts.
This is a really amazing piece of software. I interviewed
the software developers on my radio show a few months ago,
and everything they do is totally within Twitter’s terms
of service.

You can grab a copy of Market Me Tweet at:
http://timic.org/MarketMeTweet

I’m very social on Twitter, but it’s also a part of my
marketing efforts, so I flow out my activities on Twitter.
If I’m helping with a product launch (or any cause for that
matter), I plan and schedule my tweets along a timeline.
That’s one great use for Market Me Tweet.

When I’m doing something like that, I may pre-schedule 25
or more tweets. Here’s one of my big secrets… When
composing those tweets, I often grab headlines from a
product’s webpage, and then just add my url ;-)

I post to over 50 social media websites, so when I post to
Twitter, I have it automatically repost to FaceBook and a
number of other places.

I blog a lot. I’ve been blogging since 2004… longer than
many marketers have been online! My blog automatically
posts to Twitter.

I’m a charter member of another site very much like Twitter,
except that it’s designed for marketers, meaning they
encourage using it for heavy promoting. That sites is called
Sokule (pronounced “so cool”) and your account can be
configured to post to dozens of other social media sites
including Twitter.

You can pre-schedule up to 25 posts at Sokule, and they can be
up to 500 characters. You can select which if any of the
social media sites Sokule reposts to. I often post to Sokule,
and have it relay certain messages to Twitter.

You can get a free Sokule account here:
http://timic.org/sokule

When I visit Twitter, I’m fairly organized and also have a time
limit of how long I will allow myself to stay on the site.
Twitter visits are almost like a reward for getting other critical
tasks done.

When I log in, the first thing I check is Direct Messages. These
are people talking directly to me. So, I need to respond. The
next thing that I check are @ replies. These people are also
talking directly to me, so I owe many of them replies. Finally,
I check my general “twitstream.” Often, I’ll find particularly
insightful posts there that I want to retweet (share with my
followers). Then I get back to work!

I schedule my time on Twitter. That is, I visit Twitter at times
penciled into my schedule.

Final tip for now… consider not responding to tweets immediately.
Sometimes it’s better to wait a while, or you get stuck in a
back-and-forth conversation that could go on FOREVER… throwing
you off-schedule.

It all depends upon how chatty a follower is, but I feel that if
you have that much to say to each other, then you should probably
schedule a phone call. YES, I did say “schedule” a phone call.
That’s because the phone is another one of those “time vampires”
that suck the productivity out of your day :-)

Ok, so now you have a few of my time management secrets. I have
a lot more things that I do to manage my time, since I’m involved
in so many projects. I’ll share more of them with you in the future.

Willie Crawford Teaches Internet Marketing 2010-07-08 06:45:31

Posted By: Admin on July 8, 2010 at 6:45 am

Having been in business online for 14+ years, I
watch my results closely, and have learned a lot
of “tricks of the trade.”

One thing that I’ve noticed is the newbie tendency to
keep promoting the same products… even when they
are NOT selling.

When you are not making many sales, one of the first
things that you should look at is your product mix.
Why are people not buying?. Should you CHANGE what
you are offering?

Often, what people want is a matter of timing. Certain
products are in demand at a certain time/season. Those
products could lose their popularity, only to come back
into vogue a few months… or a year later. Don’t ride
a dead horse… If they are not buying your offering,
figure out what they want.

Also, look at WHEN you send your mailings. When are your
customers online… and when should you send your mailing
to be at the top of their inboxes when they log in. This is
something we’ve discussed recently at The Internet Marketing
Inner Circle. If you are not a member, you should be. You
can get a trial membership for only $1 at http://timic.org

Maybe, you should be offering some service instead of
product, but you don’t want to get stuck trading time for
dollars. That’s not scalable. Instead, you want to
outsource the work. You can hire a full-time worker…
who puts in 40 hours per week, for about $300 per month here:
http://store.replacemyself.com/?aid=5562

Yes, 160 hours for about $300. Why would you want to do the
work yourself, when you can get it done that cheaply? That’s what
my friend Maria Gudelis calls “talent arbitrage.”

You need to just pay attention to what products are selling
best at popular affiliate program systems. Clickbank uses
a “gravity score” to tell you what’s selling best.

At my favorite place to locate hot-selling products “RAPBank”,
they also tell you what is the hottest selling products. I
log in, look at what’s selling best, and decide if one of those
products is a match for the list/niche I’m mailing to. It’s
that simple.

I like RAPBank largely because they pay instant commissions.

Check out RAPBank here: http://timic.org/RAPBank

This is not a complicated business. It does take testing and
tracking, and paying attention. To do otherwise, you waste a
lot of time and other resources!
