Believe it or not dental plans and dental insurance are not the same. Surely enough, many people tend to confuse these two things but in fact they offer different coverage and involve different processes.

Before you start your research, it is important to be aware that there are some basic differences. Knowing it allow you to choose better and get a one that adapts to you budget.

When we are talking about dental plans, we need to either call a dental insurance company or a dental plan company to sign an agreement. This agreement will get settled after undergoing a simple process of approval that will allow you enjoy the discounts on dental procedures done by your dentist or one from a network within your preference zone. To start using it, it will suffice to submit an application and pay the membership or other additional charges.

After submitting this application, you will start getting the discounts every time you make an appointment with a dentist from your network, without having to wait for its approval or your money back.

Dental insurance on the other hand is a more complex procedure. They will first ask you to prove that you do not have preexisting conditions, and you will have to also have a doctor perform some tests on you in order for the application to be approved. The payment dynamics are also different. With using your dental insurance, you will have to cover the cost of the procedure and submit more documents to get your money back.

Before deciding for a plan or dental insurance you should know exactly what expenses are covered and the discounts, annual coverage and other payments. For example, a dental insurance policy may include coverage for your spouse and have some free services a year like cleanings.

Some types of insurance will cover the dental work done on your spouse and will cover for certain basic preventive services. There is usually a pre-established percentage of coverage for certain services. Family dental insurance can be a very good idea because it allows your family to save some money and have quality dental care.

Do research on what dental insurance policies or plans are the most appropriate for your family group or profession.
