If a bathroom remodeling plan is on your project list this year then changing the bathroom sink can be a very economical way to give a whole new fresh look to the room.

A sink installed into a countertop above a storage unit, a freestanding unit and a sink attached to a wall are a few of the many ways that this piece of furniture can be installed into the bathroom. Many people think the classic white porcelain sink is a little bland. However, they are extremely versatile, come in many shapes and can be bought to fit in many different shapes of rooms.

Porcelain sinks have moved on over the years and can now be bought in many colors from from pink to marine blue. With these colors you can create any style and completely change the whole feel of the bathroom. Prior to firing these sinks can be painted with many different motifs to complement your scheme. After painting the sinks are fired to make the designs durable and permanent.

On the opposite side of the spectrum from porcelain sinks are the exotic sink styles made using expensive teak, mahogany or birch woods. Natural wooden sinks use types of wood that are aged, treated with wax, glued and polished with a quality oil. This style of sink is certainly dramatic, but must be toweled off after each use, to prevent watermarks, and given a new wax polish application at least once a year.

Glass sink bowls that are set into a countertop or mounted onto a metal stand are a particular design that is taking off in popularity. They come in many different sizes, shapes, colors and textures. I recently saw a spectacular creation which was a copper sink sandwiched between two layers of glass. Glass is a very moldable and adaptable material that can be used to make stunning creations.

Sinks are now being made from many other materials such as brass, steel and stainless steel. One of my favorites is stone which can give a very earthy organic look to a bathroom. Luckily you only need the sink to be made out of these materials otherwise it would become prohibitively expensive.

It is easy to get carried away with your purchase when confronted by so many designs and styles. It can, however, prove very expensive and you could end up with something that is quite impractical. It is, therefore, important that you initially set out your budget and think about the style you want and any practicality issues.
