While there are many excellent yet expensive garage storage systems out there, if you feel limited by your budget, the best thing to buy is a set of good storage shelves. Without them, you will certainly have a cluttered garage. This will happen simply by default, as items will not have a place to go!

Luckily, there are many different types of shelves made specifically for the garage. Retailers such as Target carry quality garage shelving units one can buy and install in their garage. However, note that depending on the type of shelf and the quality of the materials, the price will range from low to high.

Starting from the bottom price tag, hollow wooden shelves are likely the least expensive option. Related to this are the metal wire shelves. While these units can hold quite a bit of light weight items, note that they will not be suitable for anything heavy. In the long term, cheaper shelves can break under the weight of heavy items. Use cheaper shelves for items such as toys, storing out of season or old clothes, and light tools used in the garden.

Now if your budget is going to allow for, you’ll find it a worthy investment of your dollars to purchase a solid shelf designed to hold hundreds of pounds. These units will offer you a more realistic solution to sorting through the items in your garage, as many items do weight quite a bit. In the long run, solid shelves are going to outlast anything hollow and cheap, too.

The high end garage shelves offer other perks, too. For instance, closed doors over the shelving units is a nice trick for covering up all the items and further making things look nice and organized. Others will have elaborate designs on the covers or sides of the shelves, making it nice to look at.

The biggest perk of though is that offered by ceiling and wall mounted garage storage racks. Understandably, these units cost more than others but the extra money goes towards giving you some extra floor space back! Wall and ceiling mounted racks will clear up space on the ground and use space that you didn’t know you had.
