For the onlookers’ eyes Porch awnings are surly adding style to your home, but for you they could mean intimate moments, like having to sip some freshly brewed coffee with your near and dear ones, or just chilling and feeling the cool, cool breeze caressing you! Or is it to have a romantic dinner right at your doorstep? Whatever you wish to do at your porch awnings is entire respect to your mood.

Now wouldn’t you want these porch awnings to last longer? Although they are not really expensive, a little care taken makes the place more inviting and all the difference. However the first step lies when you go for one. Since you are buying an awning for the porch, it makes sense to keep in mind the external weather conditions where actually it will be installed.

Check for the material used, it has to be for all weather conditions. The manufacturer’s specifications should give you the details of the product. Go for the most highly effective protection coat and made of acrylic. This way you ensure the longevity of your new awning. Check the warranty card, for longer the warranty duration, better will the awning serve you!

I am sure you don’t want your awnings to look awful and unattended?

Well, prevention is better than cure:

* Any flotsam and jetsam forming on your awning? Brush off the dried leaves getting accumulated right on the top, it not only looks unclean, but that extra weight could start questioning the support frames strength too.

* Don’t leave dirty stains, like the passing birds drop, for too long, or else they won’t leave your awnings. Such awnings look awful and neglected.

* Use soft bristled brush for cleaning to save them from painful scratches.

* Regularly gentle cleaning with mild soap water and soft brush helps. Clean it regularly rather doing it once when it gets really awful.

* Check for the frame as rusting starts from here. Clean it as soon as it starts.

* Don’t let water to stagnate on it, let all the water drain down by proper fixing of the awning. Brush down snow as this could be as bad as the stagnate water and in fact much heavier.

* Rolling or packing a wet awning? Want to save it from mold and mildew then let there be even no moisture left in it before you call for a pack up. Let it completely dry before you do so. And if you happen to do so for whatever reason, then remember to make it a point to open it for drying as soon as possible.

* Be careful when you pack the awning. Don’t put all the parts like curtains, mud skirts, ground sheets and rings together. They could harm one another.

Inspect closely and clean regularly:

Once in a while do a visual inspection of the porch awning. Look for any loose or swelled screws, nuts and bolts and take time to fix them up. Any repairs or replacements you think are required finish it first. Minor neglected tears can prove as major problems eventually. Do not delay!

Are you winding your awning, make sure to clean it first before it goes in the garage or a trunk. Should it catch molds and mildew then it may cause serious health issues for some. If you have a coated awning, then make use of the chlorinated water in cleaning it, with the measuring proportion of 1:10. One must follow assiduously to maintain the awnings for a long time.

To remove stains, use the brush first then followed by lukewarm water. Don’t use harsh chemicals. You can also go for special cleaning agent rather than the chemical soaps. Talking to the manufacturer should help.

Cooking in the porch awning?

This is not a very good idea, as it can cause the material to discolor and catch the smell. More over you cannot over look the danger of the awning catching fire. Eating your food here is a very good idea, however!

Paying attention to Small things will take care of your awning for the years to come.

Investing in a gorgeous porch is possibly one very good thing you can do. To see more on porches including porch awning design check out http://www.DiscountPatioFurnitureSite.com .
