Rats can be a chief annoyance in the lives of many individuals. These creatures are identified to be carriers of fatal illnesses. Rats are known to create damages to houses and personal possessions, considering that rats will nibble on everything that they could sink their teeth into. To stop rats from infesting your house, you can choose one of several pest control procedures that are guaranteed to stop rat populations.

You can use electronic methods for driving them away from your home. These ways use sounds of high frequency emitted by ultrasonic devices that can repel the rats. These sounds are audible only to rats and therefore the devices are safe for people and household pets.

Another method of getting rid of rats is by using organic rat repellents. This technique uses small pellets of chemicals that let out smell of carnivores that feed on rodents, thereby chasing them away. These can be sprinkled throughout the home, front yard, garage or at other places frequented by rats.

Moth balls that give out a strong odour can also be used and can keep the rats off your home. They are highly efficacious if kept in remote and dark nooks of the house, which are likely to be inhabited by the rats.

One of the ways that have been widely practised for quite some time now is the use of mechanical traps, commonly called wooden snap traps. They are less costly and quite effective when fitted with suitable baits. However, they can injure the kids and household pets and thus need to be carefully placed. The limitation with such snap traps is that they can catch one rat at one go. Though, the benefit of this method is that it is not hazardous like chemical pesticides.

Glue boards are a pest control measure used to catch rats alive. They can be wooden or made of cardboard with their surface covered with glue. You can put bread crumbs on the board that can act as good bait for rats. When a rat scampers across the board for the bait, it gets stuck and eventually dies from either starvation or suffocation.
